However, the upsurge of Naxalism in the hilly and difficult terrain of the State poses a big challenge to the enforcement & development agencies today. Since inception, six new revenue districts viz., Dantewada, Kanker, Kabirdham, Koriya, Narayanpur & Bijapur have been carved out to supplement the administrative efficacy, making a total of 18 districts in the State. Besides these, Balrampur & Surajpur have been given separate identity of police districts to effectively deal with the problem that has attained considerable dimensions in recent times.
